Other non inflammatory diets such, as the CA and Arthritis Foundation Anti Inflammatory diets, which are essentially Mediterranean diets, are also efficacious. New research has determined obesity is an inflammatory agent and just losing weight will produce an improvement in symptoms. I have had equal success with removal of wheat, grain, nuts and sometimes dairy from diets. I think the key here is weight loss and removal of inflammatory agents.
Regarding Lifestyle modification, Redesign (TM), etc. Occupational Therapists are specifically trained in the assessment of the person in their unique performance of all tasks of daily life. We understand each person is a unique biopsycho social being and that recommendations must follow evaluation of body mechanics, values, interests, finances, psycho social needs, and accessibility. FMRIs have shown that people with chronic pain such as FMS or low back pain experience cognitive changes and loss of brain grey matter. FMS has recently been recategorized as a chronic disease. Our treatment techniques are rehabilitative and promote positive neuroplasticity. Our goal is increased self efficacy, increased function and improved quality of life. I think patients would benefit from a team of Chiropractors and Occupational Therapy. Kind regards, Margo Traines
